3 Semaines – Scott Pardoel-Gibson

Posted by on Mar 30, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

Monkeys in Canada – Part 2 by Roger Collins

Posted by on Mar 30, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

This is the second and last addition to my “Monkeys of Canada” blog series, where I have described how absolutely amazing the Findinglife team is. I guess you could say it’s my 3rd addition, because the first one was called “The support group”, which described the group of amazing adults making it possible for us, the teenagers. “The Monkeys of Canada” speaks of the teenagers, my closest friends in the last month of my life. I wish I could suck all of the feelings out of me, transform it into a crazy color and splat it all over the page for you to understand how cool these...

One Awesome Weekend! – By Scott Pardoel-Gibson

Posted by on Mar 29, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

On Friday the six students met Elia and our trainers Steph and Tanya at Goodlife Fitness. We were all eager to work with them in person after all of the videos they sent us demonstrating the conditioning routines. We split the group; the guys working with Steph while Tanya led the girls. We started out nice and easy with maximum squats followed closely by max push-ups. For the squats we were side by side in front of a huge mirror so that we could watch our form and keep an eye on each other. Steph was correcting us and pushing us to keep it up. I have no idea how many we did but I remember...

Fear of Failure – By Rima Sanaallah

Posted by on Mar 29, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

Hey Everyone! Before I began training, I was a little worried about Mt. Kenya- or should I say a lot worried. Now that I’m working hard each and every day (instead of the regular 4x per week), I’ve been becoming more relaxed about it, and actually extremely excited. I spend a whole lot of my time googling the highest mountains of the world and reading about what people have to say about them. But last night, my excitement converted to fear. I spent about 4 hours going through (almost) every blog Elia had posted up about his previous expeditions. (On a side note, I had no idea he...

Monkeys of Canada – By Roger Collins

Posted by on Mar 28, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

Several weeks ago, I wrote a blog called “The Support Group”. In that blog, I talked about the entire group of amazing adults that will be coming with us to Africa and are essentially making it happen for us, the teenagers. I also said I would post another one about the second half of our dynamic group, being the teenagers themselves. I decided to wait a little bit longer before I posted that one so I could accurately describe who these people are to me, and who they would be to you. Not only am I glad I waited to write this one, but I’m glad I’m even honored to get to know these...

A Fun but Challenging Weekend – By Kendra Paul

Posted by on Mar 28, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

Hmmm where do I begin?… This past weekend has been jam packed with training, events and hiking! So I guess I’ll start with what the team did Friday. After school I had to bus for a good 45 minutes to get to The Goodlife Fitness Centre in Orleans. I was honestly scared about getting together with the team for a work-out because I’m not the strongest/fittest person in the world, I honestly felt like saying “I wasn’t feeling good” or “something came up and I can’t come to the workout” but I didn’t. Even though I was nervous about the unexpected I still went and it ended up...

Hopewell Public School – By Rima Sanaallah

Posted by on Mar 27, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

You know… It’s really funny. The FindingLife team is supposed to be very inspiring to others, but never in my whole life have I been so inspired by children. Especially the kids from Hopewell Public School. They are the absolute GREATEST! I’ve never seen a bunch of kids so intelligent, so supportive of everyone and so sympathetic. Today, we held the information event at Hopewell. When I first walked into the school, I couldn’t help but notice the walls were completely covered with FindingLife’s adventures. I must’ve seen Elia’s name about 1000 times,...

26 Days to go! By Lindsey Gresham

Posted by on Mar 27, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

Yesterday, on March 26th, a new adventure began. I don’t mean one of those “swinging off of branches and jumping off of cliffs” adventures, I mean the beginning of one extremely large group of amazing caring people working together. An adventure of meeting a new culture, whether we’re watching it from home or seeing it in a new country. In just 26 days now, this entire team, every community that follows, every student that achieves every goal they make, will be travelling to Solio, Kenya and meeting another community there. I can’t begin to explain how I feel...

Me and a bowl of Jello – By Alexandre Labranche

Posted by on Mar 27, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

What’s the difference between me and a bowl of jello? NOTHING! Yes that’s how I feel right now, after the busiest weekend I’ve had with FindingLife so far, but I loved it! On friday the whole team met at the GoodLife fitness club in Orleans where we had a training session with Stephane and Tanya. The guys, Scott, Roger and I trained with Stephane while the girls trained with Tanya. We did a bunch of different sorts of exercises like stretching, where I realized I am SO not flexible, I had a hard time touching my knees! We also did some strength training, especially leg presses and man...

Supplements on a Sunday morning – By Lindsey Gresham

Posted by on Mar 25, 2011 in Blogs, Expedition 2011 | 0 comments

On what I thought was too early on a Sunday morning to be out “shopping”,I pulled into a parking lot off of Clyde. Soon after, the rest of the FindingLife family and I stepped through the doors of FitShop. Walking in, I was intimidated by allthe rows of supplements that I thought I’d never have to consider using – that is, of course, before I started training to summit Africa’s second highest peak. Already, our team has been training almost daily with either our weekly hikes in Gatineau, strength training, cardio, and lets not forget Stephane’s conditioning routines. The ones...
