In January of 2009, Elia Saikaly and Sport Management Professor Dr. Norm O’Reilly, climbed Mount Aconcagua in Argentina as part of an ethnographic research study and film making effort. The research was an “up close look at role models and health”. The expedition will also involve Laurentian University and Vincent Massey Public School in the Ottawa area. 60 students followed the expedition through blogs, live dispatches and satellite phone calls. Elia and Dr. Norm O’Reilly worked closely with teachers to meet the curriculum set by the Ministry of Education. The expedition and pilot-project was a huge success. The results and findings have yet to be published.
