The Value Of Life – By Roger Collins

It has been about 2 weeks since returning from Kenya, and many prominent things have been entering my life as of recent. Every morning I open my door to hear the birds chirping from the tree branches which connect to the tree that stands on my front lawn. A new home – By Alexandre Labranche

There are no words to describe how it was when I got back home. Just getting on the plane to go to Montreal gave me a feeling I had never felt before. There are no words to describe how it was when I got back home. Just getting on the plane to go to Montreal gave me a feeling I had never felt before. It was like a mix of “Oh no back to my normal life” and “SHOWEERRS!” Its just to say that I was so excited to see my family and friends again, but I also didn’t want to leave the world I discovered over in Africa. Going in the...

Final thoughts – By Kendra Paul

They say fairy tales only happen in story books, well that’s not true anymore because I experienced a magical, life changing trip to Kenya. I’ve always been a person that fantasizes about adventure, romance and the future, and luckily I was able to fall in love with an adventure that has changed my future in an AMAZING way. Good things don’t have to end – By Scott Pardoel Gibson

I can’t believe that this is my last blog. I have been home for 2 weeks now and I am still having a hard time adjusting. After such an amazing experience it is hard to come back to normal life. Especially after seeing the living conditions in Solio and the rest of Kenya. Even just inside the airport the difference between the two countries is apparent. Coming home and having my own room and drawers full of clothes feels almost wrong. I absolutely loved my time in Kenya and am sad that it is over but as the saying goes all good things come to...

Home – By Rima Sanaallah

Can’t believe it’s been almost 2 weeks since I’ve been back. I’m glad I never got homesick back in Africa, because those 3 weeks just flew by, and we’re already back in Canada! This past week I’ve had so many mixed emotions. Can’t believe it’s been almost 2 weeks since I’ve been back. The Sweet Aftertaste – By Lindsey Gresham

I was sitting down one night, a week and a few days after leaving what was truly the most remarkable and memorable time of my life. I was sitting in the comfort of my own room, in a bed with blankets, a pillow, sheets, things that would have seemed so foreign to me back in Kenya. Yet here I was, in a house, faced with a computer watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. However I couldn’t just WATCH. I realized these TV shows are so bland. Just over a week ago, I was living true adventure, seeing life, real problems, true...

Strength – By Scott Pardoel Gibson

With the trek up mount Kenya completed, the thoughts of the team begin to turn towards home.  Many of us are sore and mentally drained from the climb, we find comfort in the thought of our loved ones back home. With the trek up mount Kenya completed, the thoughts of the team begin to turn towards home.  Many of us are sore and mentally drained from the climb, we find comfort in the thought of our loved ones back home.  I ask myself: how will my life be different once all is said and done?  We will have made a huge impact in the community...

Before I came to Africa… – By Kendra Paul

Before I came to Africa I talked to some elders in the aboriginal community and they told me I would find a lot of similarities between my culture and theirs. Before I came to Africa I talked to some elders in the aboriginal community and they told me I would find a lot of similarities between my culture and theirs. I’ve been learning so much about the culture it’s amazing how I can connect with their beliefs. When we were climbing Mt. Kenya I spent a lot of time with Kioni (one of the guides) and we talked about our cultural beliefs and...

I didn’t expect this – By Alex Labranche

The mountain was a monster that ate your willpower when you climbed it, but gave you confidence and pride when you conquered it. I didn’t expect this. I didn’t expect the hardships. I didn’t expect the tears. And I certainly did not expect this much realisations. The mountain was a monster that ate your willpower when you climbed it, but gave you confidence and pride when you conquered it. I think I discovered more about myself climbing the mountain than I did in my entire life. The physical challenge is only half the story, because...

Norm O’Reilly Professor, University of Ottawa Faculty of Health Sciences As our adventure has evolved, many of you following along may have wondered how it all works with people on the mountain, the technology, the filming and the operation of it all. Simply put, it is a well planned, resource-intensive process that we put in place months before and implement on the ground with plan A, plan B, contingencies and back-ups. As our adventure has evolved, many of you following along may have wondered how it all works with people on the...
